Alright, so if you follow (which you undoubtedly do if you are reading this) then you know we’ve been posting some ominous pieces of information recently about change and evolving and bullshit like that. I’m writing this now to explain to you exactly what is going on.
It all started when Kyle, my good friend and co-founder of this site, asked if he could post the information for his bands upcoming show on the tumblr. I agreed that it was a cool thing and might get a few more people to show up. It probably didn’t, but the idea stuck that eventually PunkPunkNotPunk could evolve into something more than just a stupid comedy meme blog. It could become something that we’ve personally dreamed of doing. Putting on and promoting shows.
You guys have probably seen me post information about upcoming shows here from time to time, and that’s definitely going to continue, but on a much grander scale. We’re going to be (and have been working on) planning and putting together shows with bands that we love in the Los Angeles area and trying to get people to come out and support the scene.
On top of that, we will be working with artists to put together flyers for the shows, and sell prints and various works of art at the shows.
And on top of THAT even, and possibly the most exciting of all, is that PunkPunkNotPunk will begin it’s transition into Not-Punk Magazine, an online zine of sorts focused on everything from music and film to feminism, surfing, fashion, sociological issues, technology, interesting television programs, and pretty much everything else that we find interesting.
The PunkPunkNotPunk comedy meme that some of you have grown to know and love will remain, but as a subsection of the magazine as a whole.
Within the coming weeks you will begin to see these changes take place. We will be putting on shows, and posting album reviews and film critiques and just whatever else we want to talk about. This means we will be expanding, and right now we are looking for people to write columns and whatever the hell they really feel passionate about and love.
If you are interested in getting involved in this project (and I really hope you are), please, email me. Zachnavis@gmail.com. We are looking for artists, writers, poets, outsiders, opinionated assholes etc. We want to hear what you have to say, and we want the rest of the world to listen too.
I’m really excited about this, and hope you are willing to come along for the ride.
Love,
Zach Navis
